Sprint Hero Not Sleeping Properly

Sprint HeroUsers over at the SprintUsers.com forums and theĀ Sprint Community have recently been discussing and troubleshooting an issue with Sprint's HTC Hero not sleeping causing increased battery usage and not sleeping properly.

Flipz writes:

.. it was proven above that the Dialer app was putting a lock on the phone whenever you sent an SMS. This prevented the phone from going to sleep. The current work around is to use an SMS app from the market.

The current two recommendations are ChompSMS and HandCent. It is has been confirmed by multiple users (mobilehavoc, freshlyill, spork27, and myself) that the phone is sleeping properly if you don't use the internal messaging client (and of course assuming you don't have a different issue than described here!).

Both SMS apps are available free from the app store and offer much greater customization than the built in HTC messages app. For more information about the issue, check out the forums linked above.

About got droid?

There are a multitude of blogs out there highlighting a mix of both Android hardware and software. On this blog, we hope to focus more on the software end of it with news about releases, reviews of apps, tips and tricks and more. Once a user has purchased a phone, they're (understandably) more concerned about what they can put on it rather than other handsets and that's what we're here for.
